“SEEDS” is an intimate reflection on family life, my identity as a member of a binational family and mother of a mixed-race child, capturing the places we call “Home” and the people who are family in Europe, Madagascar and South Africa. SEEDS was undertaken after a Master Studio Class with Aida Muluneh. She pushed me to do self-exploration, and question what was the common thread, the link that tied all these aspects in my life, which are not originally made to coexist. My Malagasy origins, my French husband, our mixed-race son. My black identity, my Western education and way of thinking. Through this process, I plan to dig into the earth to examine the seeds planted throughout France, Madagascar and South Africa, and have grown into our family tree and to make peace with what my life is today. These photos are part of the first and French chapter of what will be a long-term self-introspection.
