Tarekegn Tesfaye
Though Tarekegn is formally trained as an information technology expert and works for an international development organization, he is fascinated with photography and has deeply engaged with images working as a graphics designer for a few years. He enjoys spending his free time doing street photography and taking portrait shots. An avid student of photography, Tarekegn continues to develop his skills.
Funerals and weddings hold significant meanings in the various cultures in Ethiopia. These life events dominate entire agendas of communities, and people often take the time to pay their respects to the deceased. With a collection of candid images, Tarekegn keeps alive the memory of his late mother, who gave her everything to raise him. The images show Mrs. Yitayish through various stages of her life until a fateful day in 2015 when a car accident took her life.

The Addis Foto Fest (AFF) was established in 2010 by award-winning photographer and cultural entrepreneur, Aida Muluneh. The festival is organized by Desta for Africa Creative Consulting PLC. AFF is a biennial international photography festival held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It has previously featured exhibitions, portfolio reviews, conferences, projections and film screenings in many different renowned venues. It is also the first and only international photography festival in East Africa.
