Zelalem Gizachew
Zelalem is a medical laboratory technologist and a computer programmer by training. But his passion for travel and images has helped him develop a strong interest in photography. He taught himself some basic skills. He started off by taking amazing photos of his extensive global travels with his digital camera, but has recently started experimenting with film.
For Zelalem, the defining moments of his life are those he came across through his travels. His journey through the Semien Mountains – Ethiopia’s rooftops, to the hills of Papua New Guinea and exploring the water ways in Panama, traveling helped Zelalem not only to experience other cultures, but also to reflect on the ultimate life questions and understand the essence of his very existence in a completely new context. In his collection, Zelalem explores his surroundings, foreign cultures, reflections of his thoughts, dreams and memories. The pictures in this collection were taken through his various travels. The images are a result of his unexpected feelings, thoughts and perceptions during his travels.
